Drivers of the convertible model are advised to stay below 100mph when the roof is in place.

Whats New: The soft folding roof is manually operable and requires some fiddling, but once it? s stowed in the trunk, you? ll forget the hassle as the marvelous V-12? s roar washes over the cockpit in an ear-shattering symphony of power.

Secondly, the Drivers of the convertible model are advised to stay below 160 km/h when the roof is in place.

The rear quarter window has been removed,it didn't prove too usefull anyway, at the rear, the bumper is now one unit, the exhaust pipes are covered by it.

The replacement for the ageingDiablo, the Murcielago features the currently popular" stealth bomber" styling, while the rear end is reminiscent of the Countach, a novel featureare the air intakes behind the rear side windows which extend at speed.

The steel roof is there to increase stiffness of the coupe.

The external bodywork panels are made from carbon fibre, with the exception of the steel roof and door panels.

Those purchasing the Roadster can have the roof opted in dark blue or grey or the previous black.

Future models will be getting a carbon fiber roof that is expected to allow them to exceed that limit.

The same design is recaptured on the upholstery on the door panels, the panel between the seats and the engine compartment, and on the roof panel.

Weight will be cut by losing the front differential and driveshafts, the electronic system that raises and lowers the rear spoiler and the multimedia system, and by using lightweight alloys and carbonfibre door panels.

But without a roof to provide at least a little protection from the deafening growl of the V12, we're betting that the driving experience will be even more intense.

Removing the roof has required Lamborghini to make some serious structural adjustments to stop the LP640 from splitting in half as it hits warp speed.

Lamborghini also reluctantly offers a canvas roof, but warns that it is only for temporary use at speeds of under 100mph.

Whats New: The soft folding roof is manually operable and requires some fiddling, but once it? s stowed in the trunk, you? ll forget the hassle as the marvelous V-12? s roar washes over the cockpit in an ear-shattering symphony of power.

The Murcielago LP640 Coupe is radically styled and features doors that open vertically.

Various structural chassis components - in steel and carbon - have been redesigned to ensure adequate torsional stiffness, even though there is no roof.

Interior design and comfort

The driver stillstrugglesto get inside, the seats are still mounted right on the floor, butergonomicsare much improved.

Secondly, the pedals and steering wheel is less offset towards the center.

Lastlybut not least, the small and beautiful Momo steering wheel is fullyadjustable.

Inside, the seats are snug and the instrument panel is canted toward the driver for better reach.

But opening the Lamborghini?s trademark scissor doors revealed a garish orange and black leather interior that says, ?Trick or treat! ? The seats are reminiscent of curved novelty chairs from a 1970?s bachelor pad.

The seats of the Lamborghini Murcielago are also a tad awkward.

Once inside, you find the seats to be very supportive, with massive shoulder embracing bolsters - which also cut out on your three-quarter vision.

The seat to steering relationship is very easy to set, as the steering both tilts and telescopes.

Excellent driving position The driving position and seat are excellent – now with diamond shape panels - and the clear instruments are deeply recessed forward of the wheel.

The steering wheel is in my knees.

Factory options include E Gear, Q Citura, Transparent Engine Bonnet, Shinny Black Hermera Rims, Branding Package, Navigation, Titanium Fiber Trim Package, Grey Brake Calipers, Steering Wheel in Perforated Leather, Bluetooth and Ipod Interface.

Among the optional features planned for the Murcielago Roadster are a carbon fibre version of the special stiffening lattice on the engine compartment structure (which is in black steel on production models), a carbon fibre internal engine cover, and ?windbreaks? behind the seats and on the windscreen.

For the first time, the renowned characteristic Murciélago Roadster asymmetric and driver-oriented fittings and upholstery are available for the Coupé, featuring a perforated leather driver’s seat and door panel.

My toes hit the bottom of the dash, My elbow hits the back of the seat and my hand is in the windsheild.

The Murciélago has a polished white exterior with a black interior which has white seats.

The interior features leather upholstery, 3-spoke sports steering wheel, a steel gear lever and selector gate, radio and CD autochanger, and numerous storage compartments.

Safety

Passive safety standards have also been significantly improved on the Murcielago: the car is equipped with two airbags, a 60-litre bag with single inflator on the driver's side and a 130-litre bag with dual inflator on the passenger side, which emerges from a new seamlessly upholstered panel.

Engine

For those wishing to flaunt the 60? V12 heart of their Murcielago LP640, an engine hood made of transparent glass is now available.

However, thenew engine is far more torquey and tractable, which is not verysurprisingif you remember that we have talked about longer stroke and newvariableintake manifold.

Being evenlouder than the old V12, the 6. 5-litre engine is a beast compare withthe smooth and linear Ferrari V12.

The engine is obviously the Lamborghini 12 cylinder 60? V, with a displacement of 6192 cc, producing 580 hp (426 kW) at 7500 rpm and a maximum torque of 650 Nm at 5400 rpm.

Balboni claims that the engine is" 60 percent new. "

For those wishing to flaunt the heart of their Murcielago LP640, on request an engine hood made of transparent glass can be supplied.

LP refers to the fact that the engine is right at the back, just forward of the rear wheels, with the gearbox in front of it, and of course 640 refers to the power output.

engine hood made of transparent glass can be supplied.

Apart from being powerful, the engine is also very loud.

The engine is a revised version of the Diablo's 6. 0 litre V12.

It features the same engine as the LP640 coupé and replaces the 6. 2 Liter Murciélago Roadster.

Model Engine Power Torque 0-60 mph 0-100 mph 0-150 mph Quarter Mile Top Speed

Although the exterior is partially new, almost the entire mechanics (including the engine) are taken directly from the Murciélago LP640.

We'll make the engine, you design the body to fit" .

The change from one position to the other can be controlled either automatically on the basis of the operating conditions (engine coolant temperature and external air temperature) or manually, by the driver pressing a button (only with the engine running).

Furthermore, in order to meet the demands of extreme driving, Lamborghini has also developed a traction control system that acts on the engine itself.

Compared with previous models, the driveability of the Murcielago is significantly improved, thanks to the smoother torque curve, increased power, the new 6-speed gearbox and the improved electronic engine management system.

Somewhat affordable (for a supercar), the Murcielago sports a 640 HP engine which can take the beast up to 212 mph.

For those wishing to show off the LP's 6. 5-litre V12 to full effect, a glass engine cover can be ordered.

Wheels and suspension

The suspension is of multilink type all-around, riding on front 245/35ZR-18 and rear 335/30ZR-18 tires.

The newly conceived wheels are also in harmony with traditional Lamborghini design, with round holes that intersect the spokes.

P Zero tires are Max Performance Summer tires derived from 100 years of Pirelli motorsport experience and developed for the drivers of powerful s. . .

A sports suspension, which promises a further enhancement of handling properties, is in preparation.

Suspension is by double wishbones and coil springs front and rear, and there is ABS to improve control of the large brakes which sit inside the 18 inch wheels.

The doors open on the lateral like its predecessors, the body is made of steel and carbon fiber and the wheels are new 18-inch Hermera alloys.

The alloy wheel are 8 ? inches wide at the front and a whopping 13 inches wide at the rear.

All wheels are finish coated in Lamborghini bright Black and fitted with carbon fiber" winglets" adding to the design of the wheel and complementing the overall appearance of the vehicle.

The suspension design (independent double wishbones) represents the best possible solution for a high-performance GT and, again, is in keeping with Lamborghini tradition.

The Murcielago has a strong athletic stance, achieved by reducing the front and rear overhangs and by visual emphasis of the muscular contours above and around the wheels.

The 4-channel system is able to monitor and control each wheel independently.

Interior noise levels are much reduced, thanks to the use of optimised soundproofing materials, the elimination of undesirable noise channels, the adoption of integral panels and by fitting acoustic insulation panels to the wheel arches to reduce road noise.

A single exhaust so large you'd need to check it for bums in the morning is the most arresting exterior change, but there are also new Hermera alloy wheels that resemble shurikens, a sharper and more Gallardo front spoiler, and taillamps that glow like incandescent biohazard signals.

There are also new 18-inch Hermera alloy wheels running huge 335/30 tires at the rear.

It will have 680-690 Horsepower and will be rear wheel drive instead of Lamborghini's conventional all wheel drive.

New exterior pieces include wider wheel arches, a new front spoiler, and imsa CFK air ducts meant to reduce drag at incredibly high speeds.

Besides, there are new wheel design.

I have never driven the original Murcielago but I've had a few people tell me that its four wheel drive system makes the car a bit too 'controlled' on the track.

Chassis

The chassis is still world class, being constructed from sheet steel and honeycombed carbon-fiber for the ultimate in strength, stiffness and lightness.

The chassis is responsive, the controls providing feedback, allowing the driver to exploit the Murcielago's huge performance more often - there's never been a more wieldy flagship Lamborghini - despite its ample size.

The chassis, which has a structural steel roof and a carbon fibre floor pan attached to the tubular frame, incorporates pressed steel panels with stiffening ribs, which also have a structural function.

The stiffer chassis also makes an important if indirect contribution to driver comfort.

Nowit seems that we have forgotten the body and chassis - what Lamborghinimen always see as no more than an engine cover.

The new chassis offers several advantages over the previous design:

Onboard computer system

The instrument panel includes a trip computer that displays average and maximum speed, maximum acceleration, miles to empty (range), a chronometer and a voltmeter.

Lamborghini, which proudly makes its own engine computers, completely rewrote the software (no doubt with some input from parent company Audi) to accommodate the new hardware.

The old stealth fighter employed an angulardesign because at that time the computer simulation technology was notas advanced as later on. In the case of Lamborghini, it reverts toangular design purely for a spectacular visual effect.

A trip computer is included.
